On 15 June Joburg Ballet will partner with the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in Gauteng and a number of local schools to celebrate Youth Day, one day ahead of the national public holiday on 16 June. Supported by the Gauteng Department of Education, Johannesburg South District, a special schools performance will take place at Orange Farm Multipurpose Centre, Palm Drive, Orange Farm from 12:00 to 14:00 on Thursday 15 June.
La Traviata and Swan Lake Performed Live for Youth Day
Joburg Ballet will perform a number of highlights, including excerpts from La Traviata and Swan Lake, bringing the joy and excitement of dance to children from previously disadvantaged communities who may not yet have experienced the exhilaration of a live performance.
Sharing the stage with the professional dancers will be children from Joburg Ballet School, together with young dancers from several schools in the area, all marking this day devoted to honouring South African youth.
Among the schools participating are Raphela Secondary, Leshata Secondary, Jabulile Secondary, Masibambane College, Thamsanqa Secondary and Madume Primary.
Joburg Ballet’s Development Work
The event will be under the entertaining guidance of Joburg Ballet’s Keke Chele as MC. Members of the public are welcome to attend free of charge.
