In fair Verona, where we lay our scene

“Two households, both alike in dignity
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life
Whose misadventured piteous overthrows
So with their death bury their parents’ strife”
– William Shakespear, Romeo and Juliet

Wednesday night saw me having a Mom’s Night out (the first in over a year) and what better way to enjoy a Night out than dinner and a trip to the Theatre. The premier of the Gevena Ballet’s Romeo and Juliette is where my night out found me. Romeo and Juliet is one of the few ballets I haven’t seen so I was super excited to see it, plus it was an international company performing, *bonus*.

The choreography was mind blowing, the dances moved effortlessly across the stage. The set pieces were minimalistic and their rendition of Romeo and Juliet breathtaking. I personally am not a huge fan of contemporary ballet, I’m more a classical, tutus and pointes lover, but this production was amazing.

The show is on at the Joburg Theatre until Sunday and I can highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys dance.
