2014 – Ups and Down and Lessons Learnt

1. What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before? I ran a Half Marathon, which meant that Ladybug had to sleep out that night which was a first for both of us. I also ran on the top of Africa!!! AMAZING! 2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don’t think I had any, but for 2015 we will live life large and not hold back on anything! 3. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve? At the Oval in Dubbo, New South Wales with our family… Including my brother and nephew.  Its also Aunty Nonny’s 21st!!!!! 4. Did anyone close to you die? My first born furbaby (Comic Creepers). and my best friend’s Dad passed away – Ive known him pretty much my whole life.  It hit me hard, but what hit me harder was that …

Meet Bointjie

Yesterday I witnessed another HUGE milestone for Ladybug, one that I have been waiting in anticipation for her to get to.  Yesterday I got to meet Bointjie.  I cant tell you what Bointjie looks like, but I can tell you that the following: Bointjie is a Boy Bointjie LOVES chicken and sweets and he likes sharing them with Ladybug Bointjie is silly Bointjie is also naughty Bointjie lives in the car (for now) Bointjie is Ladybug’s first Imaginary friend! Bointjie hasn’t managed to make it out the car yet, he still sleeps there (according to Ladybug) but I am eager to see how this little friend grows or if he is joined by new friends. Im loving this stage of Ladybug’s development, it makes all the not listening and the tantrums worth it – well almost! I promise to spend countless hours updating you on the goings on this long …

Lets Get Real… Lets Talk About Cancer

So this month is breast Cancer Awareness month.  Sunday was Bandana Day in aid of Leukaemia Awareness. Ladybug and I have recently bought cupcakes from “Cupcakes for Hope” in aid of Childhood Cancer. What are you doing about Cancer Awareness?  How are you getting involved? Don’t tell me that your little bit doesn’t help, it does.  It helps in so many ways, on so many levels and it helps me personally. No, I don’t have Cancer, but I know people who do.  I know people who are busy fighting the battle of their lives.  I know people who have fought this battle and have won.  I know people that are fighting it for the second time and I know people who have lost this battle.  Im not talking about the the boy who I was at school with (and haven’t seen since I left school) that recently lost his battle …

Clutch Snaps… NO Problem, I run!

My clutch cable snapped on my trusty (new/old) half a car… beforehand, this would have had me in a flat panic, I would have been in tears no knowing what I was going to do, how I was going to get around.  But things have changed, my life has changed.  When I was mentally working out the logistics on how to fetch Ladybug from school I was excited… I could run to fetch her. Yes… take a nice leisurely run to the school to fetch her – it is 5kms on the dot from school to home.  I have run Ladybug to school beforehand (and added a visit to the Grandparentals and run back home – 12kms in total).  Ladybug LOVED it and keeps asking to run to school. A HUGE thanks to Help@OUT  – I was rescued in Centurion and dropped off at a Mechanic near my house, before …

Mommy Stop! Come Dancing (with) Me.

This weekend I received some news that not only ripped the rug out from under my feet, but it kind of hit me in the face like a wet fish and made me realise that life really isn’t fair at all. My eyes have only stopped leaking for short periods of time, but I will never admit this to my friend. It also made me realise (again) that we get so caught up in the rat race that we forget to just take time out and enjoy life, to sing, to dance and to just be. While my heart is breaking into a million pieces, I find myself looking at Ladybug with more amazement each day. She loves singing. She loves dancing and in all honesty she doesn’t care who is watching her or listening to her she will sing and dance because that is what is important to her …

Thick as Thieves

Ladybug has a BFF at school, Oosie (as she calls her or Oosinda) they are 20 days apart in age and they have been friends since forever.   Ladybug calls Oosie’s Mommy “Mommy” but heaven forbid if Oosie calls me Mommy – Ladybug gets her strop on and sulks she has even told Oosie “Its My Mommy not Oosie’s”.  There are days where I have threatened to take Oosie home when Ladybug doesn’t want to leave school because Oosie is so much nicer to me.   The other day Ladybug kept telling me her name is “Ladybug My Pillow” and I didn’t have a cooking clue where she was getting this from.  Then she would tell me Oosie’s name is Oosie My Pillow then I twigged and after confirming with Teacher Kirsten, it turns out Oosie’s second name is Maria and her surname is Papelo – Ladybug had renamed herself …

Outwit, Outlast and Outplay

Ladybug has decided she will show me once again exactly how stubborn she is and this time she makes me look like the flexible one in the family! Up until Saturday I was Mommy to Ladybug, then having spent Friday evening with her friend, I became Mamma.  Saturday Ladybug was with her friend again (and Sunday) and all traces of the word Mommy have been lost.  I kind of miss it to be honest. When correcting Ladybug and telling her its Mommy and not Mamma she will look at me and will not say Mommy!  She starts and says Mom….ma or will flat out turn round and say Clafrin or Caflin, but she will NOT say Mommy.  We are now on day 3 and she will not let the word Mommy pass her lips. I told her that I was going to ignore her if she called me Mamma, so …

a Surreal Moment

Today while listening to the voices in my head on the drive back from Pretoria, it hit me…. Ladybug is 2 tomorrow! How? When? What the…? And with that I promptly burst into tears. I’m going to be a wreck tomorrow! The last time I had such a surreal moment was singing Happy Birthday to MY baby last year. Today it hit me again… My baby is turning 2! I’ve managed to grow this little creature into a mini human without killing her – which is far longer than I’ve kept any plant alive E V E R! The 2 years have had their ups and downs, sometimes it feels like more downs than ups especially when its a constant battle of wills or the random complete melt down, but every single moment has been worth it! Last night I we were playing and I was copying her with everything …

A Review on 2013

Tanya over at Rattle and Mum (and Dear Max) posted these questions, so I figured I’d borrow them and let you in on what 2013 held for me. 1. What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before? I got 2 Diplomas (Psychology and Human Resources Management) – both passed with Distinction. 2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don’t think I made any, but I definitely have a few for 2014. 3. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve? With Ladybug, probably dreaming of the awesomeness 2014 holds. 4. Did anyone close to you die? Yes – my Gran 🙁 5. What countries did you visit? Australia (we were still there in January) 6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013? Self belief, a 6 pack and a bikini body! …
