I did not #runSoweto and wont again!

I was looking forward to the Nike Soweto Marathon that happened this last Saturday, there has always been so much hype about the Marathon that when it was resurrected by Nike I was totally on board with doing it.  However, I must be honest, I don’t think I will be doing it again next year, well definitely not the 10km. As part of my “training” (and I use the word training very loosely) plan in attempting Comrades one day I have decided to focus this year on 10kms, next year on Halfs and towards the end of next year on Marathons – then maybe I will be insane ready enough to attempt the next down run.  As much as I love the halfs and have completed one before, I entered the 10km because that’s part of the plan. Now when I run, I run with Ladybug, which means I run …

Im Missing 241 Slabs of Bubbly!

1 year ago today I signed a gym contract, my first gym contract ever.  Along with signing the gym contract came the awful weigh and measure… I thought I was ok because I had already lost weight and I was comfortable enough to show my face in a gym. I did my weigh in…. 98kgs… I was under 100kg for the first time in forever… it was 47kgs down from my heaviest… I was ok.  Then the measurements came.  Never in my life have I hated a tape measure more than I did at that moment.  It felt like every cm was being put down on paper for the world to see, truth be told it was just myself and the Gym Instructor that were seeing it. 29th May 2013 was the day I went to gym for the first time.  I would love to tell you I went back …

AWESOME Giveaway with Adventure Boot Camp

For those of you that know me and have been following on this blog for a while, you will know that fitness, health and well just generally looking after yourself has become a cause very close to my heart.  One thing I have learnt on my journey of madness getting fit is that your summer bikini body doesn’t start a few days before summer, you need to start now in winter. Did you know that a lack of sunlight can cause you to eat more! This is why many people who suffer from ‘winter blues’ tend to put on weight during winter. It’s crazy to think that a small chemical change in your body, like an increase of melatonin and a decrease of dopamine or norepinephrine in the brain can have such a massive effect on our moods and cravings. This is why it’s important to keep exercising during winter …

G is for Going, Going, Gone!

I entered this fitness, madness, whatever you want to call it journey in June/July last year and I have often blogged about it.  I did a facial comparison a few months ago and the change was well, amazing.  Now I have decided to show you the difference, this is possibly one of my most venerable posts so if you are squeamish or easily repulsed turn away now because some of the images are not very pretty! I have been doing challenges through Sleek Geeks; they keep me motivated and give me a goal to work towards, even if it is a time line goal and not the big prize.  Of course with all challenges, you take the dreaded before photos and the after photos and you pray and hope that there is some sort of remarkable difference between the two, usually there is, and sometimes you just can’t see it. …

Sense and Sensibility

After much (internal) debate and second guessing Ive decided to pull out of the Dischem21 this Sunday, Im gutted but it is for the best in the long run. In December I got German Measles, which let me tell you is no fun as an adult!  The German Measles part isn’t so bad if you can handle (what feels like) a million needles pricking your skin all day long, but the viral complications that go hand in hand with it are a killer!  My joints swelled and ached to a point where I think I may have found something worse than natural child birth, even with two cortisone injections in the space of 4 days, I thought I was going to die! I was under strict instruction from my Doctor (and the Physios at work) to not do any exercise for a month, maybe longer – so for a change …
